- Authors
McNauqhton, Janet
- Abstract
The article presents a brief history of Veilles du bon vieux temps concerts of French-Canadian folk songs, music, stories and dances organized by Marius Barbeau, an anthropologist and collector of folklore, and Edouard-Zotique Massicotte. The reasons for holding these events were to create public awareness, the belief that Quebec's tradition were valuable, promote a Canadian art for Quebec and create a romantic revival of folk culture. On March 18, 1919, the elocutionist proved to be a mistake and the organizers had difficulty in including folk music.
