The article presents the relationship between the development of Buddhism and the use of gold in Japan. It explores how the introduction of Buddhism from China led to Buddhist fine art with gold as the basic color in the religious art. The author offers the evolution of Buddhist temples and altar rooms from the year 685 up to the development of family altar-making production system up to the 21st century.
