- Abstract
Psychogenic polydipsia in bipolar disorder: A case report Psychogenic polydipsia is a well-recognized clinical entity that is often seen in individuals with psychiatric disorders, especially schizophrenia. However, psychogenic polydipsia has been rarely reported in those with mood disorders. In this case report, a patient with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder who developed psychogenic polydipsia during his prophylactic treatment is presented. Quetiapine was added to ongoing valproic acid treatment after the apperance of polydipsia. The improvement in polydipsia and polyuria as well as hypomanic symptoms may be related to the antidopaminergic effect of quetiapine which should be considered as an alternative in the treatment of psychogenic polydipsia.
