- Abstract
The article focuses on the Critical Web Reader (CWR) tool which was designed to help students examine web-based texts. The set of tools which allows teachers to create activities that help students explore one or more websites by using a series of lenses has been used since 2005. It discusses the redesigning of a new set of tools in 2007, in which a design tension was encountered between the needs of teachers and students. The phases which can be included by teachers in CWR activities include launching the inquiry, locating relevant sources, and working with web resources. The importance for CWR to be intuitive and easy to learn by teachers and students and for the redesigned tool to be clear and consistent is also discussed.
