- Abstract
Moyamoya disease is a chronic progressive occlusive intracranial vasculopathy that is recognized as the leading cause of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. It is characterized by sterno-occlusive lesions of the terminal internal carotid artery or proximal anterior cerebral artery and middle cerebral artery, with the formation of an abnormal vascular network at the base of the brain. A 1-year-old child was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease after presenting with symptoms such as decreased sensorium and decreased movement in the right upper and lower extremities. Magnetic resonance imaging and angiography revealed multiple collaterals around the Circle of Willis, gyral diffusion restriction in a specific region of the brain, and watershed infarcts. The recommended physiotherapy intervention includes weight-bearing exercises, task-oriented training, and treadmill walking.
