- Abstract
The article discusses a study concerning the role of religion and spirituality in the everyday practice of pediatricians and pediatric oncologists. In-depth interviews, which focused on the interactions of the doctors with patients and their families, were based on two questions related to how the medical professionals obtained information about the patient's religiosity or spirituality and how the information is relevant to medical care. The studies by Andrew Abbot on professional jurisdiction and by Thomas Gieryn on boundary work are mentioned. How this information affects medical decision making and end of life situations as either a barrier or a bridge is mentioned.
