- Abstract
The authors describe a fifth grade lesson on scientific communication, including argumentation, discussion, and explanation, based on a lesson about endangered species in eastern Tennessee such as the Carolina northern flying squirrel, the spruce-fir spider, and rock gnome lichen. U.S. science teaching standards, group work, and nature conservation are discussed, as well as methods for teaching about the scientific method.
