- Abstract
The article presents a classroom activity that could support early literacy and science learning. To start with, the teacher may ask her students to bring any collection of similar items, writing materials for describing and labeling, as well as books about the items. Considering the completion of the materials, the teacher may now introduce the idea of a collection with an example from the school's science or by reading aloud a book that includes a collection. Right after short discussion, the students may then be left to do their own collection, basing on the materials they brought. They may sort, categorize, and classify those things for proper organization. After the students' time, the teacher may again hold a discussion about the collection.
