- Title
Sugar's Sour Side.
- Abstract
The article presents information on a research regarding the effect of fructose on health. The researchers at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida have found that the rate of fructose in body is a possible reason for rising obesity rates. The research has pointed towards the role of fructose in the biochemical chain reaction that triggers weight gain. It also causes certain metabolic syndrome that is the main precursor to type 2 diabetes. A related research showed the effect of fructose on rats. It prevented rats from packing on the pounds while interrupting the way their bodies processed this, even though the animals continued to consume it. This is an added evidence to the effect of fructose on the obesity. The researchers are analyzing the effect of the same mechanism on human body. The changing pattern of physical inactivity, increased caloric intake and consumption of high-fat foods are increasing the sugar content in the human body, that creates problems to the health.
