- Title
LONG CYCLES IN THE BUILDING INDUSTRY.
- Authors
Long, Jr., Clarence D.
- Abstract
The article presents data related to residential and nonresidential building in the U.S. and discusses whether the long cycles found in previous studies of building activity occur in both the two main branches of the construction industry. The data of the most populous U.S. cities with substantial construction activity is discussed. Following conclusions were drawn after the analysis of statistical data: long cycles exist in both residential and nonresidential building activity; cycles in residential building are much more severe; major wars and economic depressions affect building activity; and that building activity tends to precede general business depression and to lag in its ultimate revival on the upturn.
