- Authors
Chadha, Monima; Trakakis, Nick
- Abstract
This article presents a reaction to an article by Whitley R. P. Kaufman on the doctrine of karma. Karma, according to Hindu, Buddhist and Jain doctrines and traditions, is used to explain human predicament especially in the presence of human suffering. Judaism, Christianity and Islam writers on the other hand, use karma as the solution to solve the problem of evil. The author welcomes Kaufman's article as a positive step towards the analysis of the theory of karma. He however thinks that Kaufman did not offer much explanation to the doctrine of karma as an answer to the problem of evil and comments on Kaufman's methodology for his failure in his criticism of the karma theory, which he refers to as "theodicy."
