- Title
COMMERCIALIZATION OF INDIGENOUS GENETIC RESOURCES.
- Authors
Simpson, R. David; Sedjo, Roger A.
- Abstract
A conference paper about the move of developing countries to commercialize their genetic resources, the living organisms derived from useful chemicals, is presented. The authors contend that commercialization of genetic resources will not encourage the preservation of tropical rainforests. The paper explains how the demonstration of the commercial value of genetic resources might increase conservation of biodiversity. It also provides information on the nature of indigenous genetic resources as economic goods and the evolution of property rights.
