- Abstract
Based on a project of retaining walls reinforced by high-performance geogrids in the complex environment of southwest China, finite element software was used to conduct numerical simulations and the stress and deformation characteristics of the geogrid reinforced soil (GRS) walls under different design parameters and different earthquake loads were studied and analyzed. The results shows that as the tensile strength of the geogrid increase and the length of the geogrid increase, the deformation of the retaining wall gradually decrease. Taking the horizontal deformation as an example, the reduction is 42% when using highperformance geogrids compared to normal geogrids. When the length of the reinforcement increases from 6m to 10m, the reduction is 14%. As the vertical spacing of the geogrid increases, the deformation of the structure gradually increases. Taking the horizontal deformation as an example, when the vertical spacing increases from 0. 6 m to 1. 2 m, the increase is about 29%. The tensile strength of the geogrid is an important factor affecting the stability of the GRS walls, followed by the vertical spacing of the geogrids, while the length of the geogrid has little effect on the structural deformation. Under the action of horizontal and vertical seismic loads, the deformation of GRS walls increases with the increasing seismic acceleration. Compared to normal geogrids, the restriction behaviour of retaining walls reinforced by high-performance geogrids is more obvious. The results of this study can provide certain references for the application and promotion of high-performance geogrids in reinforced soil structures.
