- Abstract
A feasible and efficient simulation and optimization method to reduce rear side window buffeting has been established and validated. For the simulation, a DES turbulence model with weakly compressible fluid was applied. By comparing the simulation results with wind tunnel test for different wind speeds, the reliability of this calculation model has been verified. As a result of a buffeting generation mechanism analysis, it has been proposed to install a deflector on the B-pillar to suppress the buffeting. A case study with a partially cylindrical deflector demonstrates the effect of buffeting reduction. Furthermore, with computer aided optimization using response surface method, the dimension of the partially cylindrical deflector on the B-pillar was optimized. For the buffeting controlling strategy, besides the buffeting peak sound pressure level (SPL), the aerodynamic drag coefficient was considered simultaneously to constitute a two-objective optimization function with different weight. The optimized variables of the deflector were finally obtained with L = 186.0 mm, R = 29.5 mm and A = 54.6°. The result shows that the rear side windowbuffeting is suppressed effectivelywith less impact on thedrag value. The reduction of peak SPL of buffeting is more than 12 dB in comparison with original state without deflector.
