Abstract
The article reports that Matthew Sacova from Stanford University and his collaborators have been able to measure the consumption of Euphausia superba by whales and the role they play in recycling nutrients in marine ecosystems. Topics include increased productivity in marine regions through increased nutrient recycling; and massive whaling of the 20th century can increase ocean productivity and restore ecosystem functionality.
