- Abstract
This study aims at exploring the effect of gender on getting children aware of their rights and duties in the UAE Society. It explores to what extent children are aware of their rights including education, protection and healthcare rights. A questionnaire was designed for Sharjah schoolchildren of the age range 12-18 and applied to 270 students (80 boys and 190 girls) using the non-probability purposive sampling method. The findings revealed a relationship between a child’s gender and the level of being aware of their rights of education, protection and healthcare and the children’s rights in general. There are differences of statistical significances between the two genders in their awareness of their rights in each category (education, protection, healthcare and child’s rights in general). Males are more aware of their rights than females.
