- Abstract
A critique is presented of a satirical 13th century poem by Ibn Daniyal inspired by the Mamluk Sultan al-Zahir Baybars' campaign to ban vices such as drugs, wine, and prostitution in Cairo, Egypt in 1267. Ibn Daniyal's influence in Mamluk poetry, the psychological aspects of the poem, and the social and historical conditions in Egypt are discussed.
