- Title
Is There an Equilibrium Point Hypothesis?
- Authors
Loeb, Gerald E.
- Abstract
The article discusses the equilibrium point (EP) hypothesis and control variables regarded by proponents as a way of explaining the actions of antagonistic muscles in achieving an equilibrium posture. Control variables CV1 and CV2 are cited and explained to relate to the regulation of muscle contractions that achieve and modulate equilibrium posture, respectively. The author discusses some of the limitations of the theory when considered from the perspective of realistic, multiarticular movements and musculature.
