- Authors
Nash, Jonathan
- Abstract
The article discusses the failures and changes at the New York State Prison from 1797 to 1828. Convicted horse thief Daniel McDonald led a rebellion that left an inmate dead and injured others in an attempt to escape. The rebellion led to reforms at the prison which are similar with Walnut Street Prison in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prisoners resist incarceration by refusing work, arson and disrupting the prison's operations.
