- Abstract
Intelligence Transportation Systems (ITS) aims to decrease the travel time, increase the traffic safety, optimum use of current road capacity, increase the mobility, contribute to economy by increasing the energy efficiency and reducing the environmental damage. ITS works among user, vehicle, infrastructure and control center to track, measure, analyze and control them. Depending on the change of the structure of the cities as well as the increasing number of vehicles, ITS are needed to command from Transportation Control Centers (TnCC) rather than Traffic Control Centers (TfCC). TnCC differs from TfCC in that it enables all of the actors in a metropol-not just cars and pedestrians- to be tracked and controlled. Therefore, TnCC can provide public transportation routes for pedestrians just like TnCC provides routing options and estimated time of arrivals for vehicles. Many countries have plans and pilot programs for TnCC. In addition to this, TnCC lets us to plan and manage unusual scenarios and situations such as earthquakes disasters, massive organizations and so on. ITS is a complete system that it prevents the inefficient energy consumption and waste of time so that it helps economy, environment, public health and so forth. According to IEA, 25% of CO2 emission caused by transportation. This ratio predicted to increase by 50% by 2030, and 80% by 2080. Hence, in this study, we propose a short, medium and long-term plans for ITS in our country by analyzing the environmental and economic benefits of the developed countries.
