- Abstract
The article discusses the status of ethnic groups in Tanzania including the hunter-gatherer Akie and Hadzabe, and the pastoralist Barabaig and Maasai and the national policies imposed by the Tanzania government for indigenous peoples. Topics include the challenges toward insecurity, poverty and inadequate political representation, the adoption of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in 2007 and the refusal to recognize the existence of any indigenous people.
