- Abstract
The article describes a study conducted in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to analyze the incidence, causes, and factors associated with unplanned extubation (UE) in hospitalized children. Intubated children who experienced UE between 2019 and 2021 were included. The results showed that the incidence of UE was 0.99/100 intubation days, with agitation being the main cause in children aged 2 to 5 years without extubation planning. Patients without continuous sedation did not require reintubation. It is concluded that the incidence of UE was below the recommended level and mainly occurred in preschoolers without extubation planning.
