- Abstract
In paediatric practice, respiratory tract complaints observed in higher rate. Recurrent cold & cough are most frequent symptoms experienced in Paediatric practice. Recurrent cold found as the manifestation of recurrent respiratory disease. In Ayurveda, symptom recurrent cold can be co-related with Pratishyaya. In present study, as the treatment of the disease Pratishyaya, Chaturbhadraka Vati (CV) is taken from Bhaishajya Ratnavali - Paribhasha Prakarana, wellknown textbook of Ayurveda. The present work was carried out to standardize the finished product CV to conform its identity, quality, and purity. The pharmacognostical work reveals presence of Annular vessels, Brown content, Cork cells, Prismatic crystals, Stone cells with yellow content etc. from tuber of Aconitum heterophyllum Wall.; Annular vessels, Fibres from root of Zingiber officinale Rose.; Silica deposition, Starch grains from rhizomes of Cyprus rotundus Linn.; Boarder pitted vessels, Collenchyma cell, Lignified boarder pitted vessels, Starch grains, Cork cells from stem of Tinospora cordilifolia Wild. Organoleptic features of CV are solid in consistency, light ash grey colour, bitter odour, bitter-astringent taste, round & biconvex in shape were observed. The pH value of CV was 8, Water-soluble extract was 24.5%w/w, Loss on drying was 7.12%w/w, Ash valvue was 9.18%w/w, Alcohol soluble extractive (%w/w) was 8.92%w/w and High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) at 254nm and 366nm resulted into 5 & 1 spots respectively.
