- Abstract
After leaching of nickel laterite ore, the solution obtained has metals with economic value. Among these metals are copper, nickel and cobalt. Separation techniques have been studied and applied for selective separation of these metals. The use of ion exchange technique for this solution is not advantageous due to the high iron concentration (20g.L-1 of Fe e 0,15g.L-1 of Cu). The precipitation by hydroxides is also not advantageous for the same reason, because the iron precipitation causes co-precipitation of copper and cobalt. Studies show that the use of precipitation by chemical reducing is technically feasible. The present work has as objective the study of copper precipitation by sodium dithionite. A synthetic solution was prepared and the effect of time (30min-120min) and stirring speed (0-200rpm) were studied. Experiments were performed at pH 0.50 and 25°C. Results showed that the copper precipitation increases when the stirring speed decreased. The percentage of copper removal from solution was 97% at 45rpm and 45min.
