- Authors
Chan, Stephanie H.
- Abstract
An essay is presented on avoiding unknown food experiences in the book "The Fifth Book of Peace," by Maxine Hong Kingston. It discusses the insistence of Kingston on preserving the need to rely on familiar food habits which produces an uncomfortable sense about food. It highlights how the book works through narrative form and food themes to complicate the relation between food cast and subjectivity in palatable narratives.
