- Abstract
Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) as a safe, low-cost and less aggressive dialysis method when compared to hemodialysis, can be performed at the home of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Currently, it appears that PD is rarely offered as a therapy and the influence of the choice of such method is diverse. This study aimed to analyze the low adherence to PD and its contributing factors. This is a review of the dissertation literature with publications between 2010 and 2021 in indexed electronic databases using descriptors to select articles relevant to the topic, along with legislation, resolutions and technical standards for study loyalty. The review was divided into two approaches "the low adherence of PD in the world" and "the low adherence of PD in Brazil". It is concluded that chronic kidney patients should and can actively participate in the process of choosing the dialysis method, in addition to being responsible for treatment adherence.
