- Abstract
The article discusses the vital component of the corrections profession, which is to ensure the health of prisoners prior to their release in the U.S. It cites prisoners' health risk during their confinement such as developing infectious disease, chronic medical conditions and significant mental health issues. Particular focus is given to Correctional Health Today (CHT), a peer-reviewed journal which provides information in understanding the ever-developing body of knowledge in health care delivery, particularly for correctional work force. It describes the founding principles of the American Correctional Association which recognizes treatment as a fundamental part of corrections.
