- Abstract
Zirconia (Zi) is emerging as a promising alternative to conventional titanium (Ti)-based implant systems for oral rehabilitation with superior biological, esthetics, mechanical, and optical properties. Zi appears to have high biocompatibility, and a soft tissue response similar to Ti. The inflammatory response and bone resorption induced by ceramic particles may be less than those induced by Ti particles due to the stable nature of the zirconium oxides. Ti is not a deal in all situations due to the darker nature of the metal and a viable esthetic alternative needs to be identified.
