Perspectives about Pontius Pilate in the Ante-Nicene Fathers.
- Authors
Judd Jr., Frank F.
- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines what the ante-Nicene fathers stated about Roman Governor Pontius Pilate. The medieval document "Mors Pilati" associates the tradition that Pilate committed suicide where his body was thrown into different bodies of water and demons followed the body of Pilate. It explores how early Christian writings, which include apocryphal literature, assess Pilate and the role of Pilate in the death of Jesus in different ways.
