- Title
'Managing risk' in the delivery of housing finance: Australia's mortgage lenders.
- Authors
Tomlinson, Mary R.
- Abstract
The article focuses on managing risk by Australia's mortgage lenders. Works by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), financial sector representative and regulatory bodies, and academics are examined wherein the limited impact of the global financial crisis (GFC) is due to the avoidance of the overly risky lending practices in the U.S. The ability to attach a borrower's assets, the use of variable interest rates, and mortgage default insurance are identified as eliminating the lender's risk.
