- Abstract
The goal of the research was to find out whether or not different starting positions of the player's defensive stances have an effect on their response time based on the measurements of the time parameters (reaction time, movement time, response time). 16 male cadets from KD Slovan participated in the research. After warming-up they performed 4 repetitions of a certain task (step-slide) in 6 different starting positions (24 repetitions altogether). The starting positions differentiated by the angle in the knees (150°, 120°, 90°) and the width of their stance (shoulder width, two-times shoulder width). We measured reaction time (RT, time it took players to react to the light signal and begin moving.), movement time (MT, time it took players to touch the stand after they started moving) and response time (RsT, time it took players to complete the entire task). The results of the two-way analysis of variance for repeated measures showed variations in all the measured time parameters between the different starting positions. We found out that the height of the stance does eff ect the RsT. But it seems that for a faster response time the width of the stance is more important than the knee-angle. Results show that a knee angle of 120° and a wide stance provide the players with a stance that has the fastest movement and reaction time.
