- Abstract
In the first decade of independent existence, Guyana went through a phase of alignment with the US and another phase of socialism. In this article, I analyze the Brazilian diplomatic documentation produced at the Itamaraty, signed by the foreign ministers and dispatched with their respective presidential generals, in order to problematize the foreign policy of Guyana and its search for better paths of international insertion. It is an unpublished documentation, precious way to understand the history of that country. I conclude that, with autonomy in alignment with the US, Brazil was able to face Guyana in a professional manner, ensuring the maintenance of its sovereignty.
