- Abstract
Finding too many parameters, different preference elements and criteria, which affect the determination of the areas and characteristics of beekeeping, creates a series of problems that are very difficult to decide, analyze and solve. The use of Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods is gaining importance in order to solve this series of problems. In this study, it is aimed to determine the beekeeping areas and production potentials within the administrative borders of Kars province by using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, one of the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) based Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods. In the data analysis phase of the study, AHP pairwise comparisons were made in order to determine the weight values of the research criteria. By using the weight values obtained, Weighted Overlay analysis was performed on the GIS software and the areas with beekeeping potential in the research area were mapped and determined. It has been determined that the most suitable lands for beekeeping production in the province are located in the high altitudes Sarıkamış, Selim, Susuz and Merkez districts, while the most unsuitable lands are in the Kağızman and Digor districts in the Aras Valley, which have low altitudes relative to their surroundings.
