- Abstract
The aim of this study is to reveal the views of prospective teachers on Special Teaching Methods (STM). This study was conducted with 85 mathematics teacher candidates who were in the third and fourth grades of the Department of Mathematics Education in Fırat University, Faculty of Education, Department of Mathematics and Science Education in 2016-2017 academic year The study was quantitative and the data were collected using an open-ended questionnaire. The data obtained from the study were analyzed by content analysis technique and grouped under specific themes. Preservice teachers' main opinion about the course of the STM; this course is necessary and it will be beneficial to use methods and techniques appropriate to the objectives and achievements in this course. Prospective teachers stated that the theoretical necessity of the course and the theoretical part of the course are prerequisite. According to some preservice teachers, the theoretical part of this course is boring so it should be reduced. The opinions of prospective teachers on the application dimension of the course are that they make the lessons learned more permanent and make the course more efficient. Considering the opinions of prospective teachers about the use of materials in the course, it is seen that the use of material in the lessons concretized the teaching and the persistence of learning in the lessons is dominant. The teacher candidates stated that it is important to be experts in their field about the lecturers who are teaching the STM lesson. They also stated that the application-weighted grade point average should be taken into consideration in the assessment and evaluation of the STM course, and it would be better to make product and process based evaluation.
