- Title
V. BEN MEEN AND THE RIDDLE OF CHUBB CRATER.
- Authors
PLOTKIN, HOWARD; TAIT, KIMBERLY T.
- Abstract
The article discusses Chubb Crater, also known as Ungava Crater, New Quebec Crater, and Pingualuit Crater, in northern Quebec. It examines the theory of prospector Fred W. Chubb that the crater derived from a volcano and the theory of V. Ben Meen, Director of the Royal Ontario Museum of Geology and Mineralogy, that it derived from a meteorite strike. The author comments on expeditions to the crater undertaken by Meen and Chubb in 1950 and 1951. Later research and the ideas of Kenneth L. Currie of the Geological Survey of Canada are also considered.
