- Abstract
This article aims at reconstructing the universe of newspaper readers of the late colonial time in Rio de la Plata. This research has brought about an interesting result: newspapers were read by a significant number of viceroyalty members. In fact, instead of being limited to a few readers, newspapers not only reached literate high or middle-class men but also lower social groups, such as women, black slaves, natives and even the illiterate. It can be said that, in Rio de la Plata, a large group of newspaper readers belonged to the Viceroyalty.
