- Title
Sliding to the Left? Contemporary American Modern Orthodoxy.
- Authors
Turetsky, Yehuda; Waxman, Chaim I.
- Abstract
The article discusses the possible liberalization of American Modern Jewish Orthodoxy in the late 20th and 21st centuries. The authors begin by explaining the influence of the conservative haredi strain of Orthodox Judaism on the overall Modern Orthodox movement. They examine shifts in Orthodox theology, gender relations, and overall community organization in order to examine this possible shift to the left. Modernity's influence on the community is evaluated. Issues surrounding the education of women, the rise in women's prayer groups, and Orthodox religious beliefs are detailed.
