The article discusses the underlying mechanisms of action and resistance for each type of hormone therapy and evaluate the current data concerning the use of endocrine agents after disease progression. It states that endocrine therapy for breast cancer has shown that tamoxifen improves outcomes for patients with hormone-responsive breast tumors. It the importance of understanding the mechanism of hormone resistance and the goals of treatment when choosing subsequent endocrine therapy.
