The article discusses various issues related to the size of the banking system in Great Britain, and the relationship between banking system size and financial stability. Topics include the two commonly used definitions of banking system size, ownership basis and residency basis, the benefits of the international financial centres, and the increase of the implicit government subsidy. Also mentioned the effect of banking system size and growth on financial stability.
