- Abstract
The article describes an outcome evaluation of a community health workers program to evaluate the impact of child survival interventions in Ceara, Northeast Brazil. The program integrated quantitative and qualitative methods to assess the interventions' ability to reduce infant mortality and inadequate weight gain in children. Qualitative methods such as rapid ethnographic assessments and focus groups had been implemented. The inherent strengths and weaknesses of quantitative and qualitative research approaches complemented each other.
