Toward asset‐oriented and definitionally clear terminology: A comment on González‐Howard and Suárez (2021).

- Abstract
Aligning English language proficiency standards with content standards: Shared opportunity and responsibility across English learner education and content areas. This shifting terminology in language education policy could provide the foundation for science education to advocate for more asset-oriented terminology in its own policy and practice. González-Howard and Suárez (2021) urge the science education community "to retire the term English language learners" (p. 1) and adopt more asset-oriented terms, such as "emergent bilinguals" and "multilingual students.".
