- Abstract
The article discusses the Italian political philosopher and political theorist Niccolò Machiavelli's perspective on the relationship between politics and war, including his concept of mobilizing citizens for military participation (referred to as military populism) in war. The article often references Machiavelli's early 16th century books "Art of War" and "The Prince." An overview of Machiavelli's perspective on conduct of life of career soldiers, including his belief that they are violent during times of peace, is provided.
