- Abstract
The aim of this experiment was to study the effects of different levels of modified Gegen Qinlian decoction in drinking water on production performance, egg quality, intestinal flora and nitrogen and phosphorus excretion rate of Hyline brown laying hens. A total of 400 Hyline brown laying hens with good health status, similar weight and laying rate were selected at 31 weeks of the age. They were randomly divided into four groups with four replicates per group and 25 hens per replicate. Laying hens in the four groups were fed the same basic diet, the control group was fed normal water without any drug, and the three experimental groups were fed modified Gegen Qinlian decoction with 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3% added to the water line, respectively. The pre-test period lasted for 7 days and the experimental period lasted for 14 days. The results showed as the followings: there were no significant effects on average laying rate and average daily feed intake of modified Gegen Qinlian decoction (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, the average daily number of preserved eggs in 0.2% and 0.3% modified Gegen Qinlian decoction groups was decreased by 27.20% (P<0.05) and 28.07% (P<0.05), respectively. The effect of 0.2% and 0.3% modified Gegen Qinlian decoction group on Haber's unit was significantly higher than that of control group 2.19% and 2.64% (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the number of Escherichia coli in chicken feces in the modified Gegen Qinlian decoction group was decreased by 13.46% (P>0.05), 25.70% (P<0.05) and 27.27% (P<0.05), respectively. The number of Salmonella decreased by 25.04% (P<0.05), 39.09% (P<0.05) and 38.80% (P<0.05). The number of Lactic acid bacteria was increased by 24.61% (P<0.05), 35.42% (P<0.05) and 33.71% (P<0.05), respectively, and the number of Bifidobacterium was increased by 23.36% (P<0.05), 34.11% (P<0.05) and 33.33% (P<0.05), respectively. The nitrogen excretion rate of 0.2% and 0.3% modified Gegen Qinlian decoction group was reduced by 13.71% (P<0.05) and 14.28% (P<0.05), respectively, the phosphorus excretion rate showed a decreasing trend, but the difference was not significant compared with the control group (P>0.05). In summary, combined with the evaluation of the experimental effect and economic benefits, it was recommended to add 0.2% modified Gegen Qinlian decoction to the waterline of Hyline brown laying hens, which could significantly reduce the number of sand eggs, maintain the balance of intestinal flora, improve the absorption of nutrients by poultry, and reduce the excretion of nitrogen and phosphorus.
