- Abstract
This article, titled "Glycosylated queuosines in tRNAs optimize translational rate and post-embryonic growth," discusses recent advancements in the field of glycobiology. The authors, Xuewei Zhao and colleagues, identified two novel RNA glycosylases, QTGAL and QTMAN, which catalyze the addition of galactose and mannose to queosine nucleosides in tRNA anticodons. These modifications, known as Q-glycosylation, contribute to effective translation by modulating decoding speed and preventing stop codon readthrough. The authors also found that Q-glycosylation is important for maintaining proteostasis and allowing normal post-embryonic development in zebrafish.
