- Title
Behavioral ecology: 40 years of fusion with ecology.
- Authors
Westneat, David F.
- Abstract
The author discusses Dr. Deborah Gordon's essay "The fusion of behavioral ecology and ecology." He cites its misconceptions on behavioral ecology which accuses behavioral ecologists of ignoring variation and implies that they overlook the contingent nature of behavior. He agrees that behavioral ecologists understood that behavior and its fitness effects are contingent on ecological and social context and that the field of behavioral ecology was dominated by the study of mate choice. He suggests a focus on the challenges of specific behavioral phenomenon.
