- Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this substance is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the treatment of mandibular fracture of reposition, fixation and immobilization using the standard Vasilev method. Material and methods: The study included a 46-year-old patient who was rushed to the emergency room at St. George Hospital’s Clinic for maxillofacial surgery, with a fracture in the angle of the mandible to the right. An operative intervention for repositioning, fixing and immobilization was performed according to the Vassilev’s method. After surgery, the patient was evaluated for verification of stable fixation and reposition, by OPG check radiography at 24 hours and 2 months after the intervention. Results: Primary healing of the fractured mandible was observed in the patient. Postoperative complications are observed after the removal of the standard splints leading to pathological motility and inflammatory process in the fracture line. Conclusions: The operative insertion of the fixing device (standard splints) by the Vassilev’s method leads to an unwanted tissue reaction, as an inflammatory process, which, after controlling it, necessitates the application of osteosynthesis as a method of treating the fracture of the mandible.
