- Abstract
The G1 point mutation (R87H) in Growth Differentiation Factor 9 (GDF9) has been used as molecular selection for prolificacy trait in sheep. This mutation occurs at c.2039G>A (exon 1) of GDF9 gene (GenBank: AF078545.2) and produces a desirable FecG1 allele. This study aimed to detect the evidence of G1 point mutation in thirty (30) MEGA (Merino × Garut) sheep from the breeding station using a sequencing approach. Research showed a carrier FecG1 (A) allele in only one sample. Hence, the frequency of FecG1 allele in the analyzed sample of MEGA sheep (Merino × Garut) was very low (0.02). Though, the studies with a larger sample and on the other regions of GDF9 gene are needed to obtain the genetic marker for reproductive traits of MEGA sheep.
