- Abstract
According to Law no. 260/2008, are obligatorily insured all the dwellings owned by natural or legal persons, on the Romanian territory. The risk covered by the insurance is a "natural disaster" that can occur exclusively, through earthquakes, landslides and floods, as natural phenomena. Compulsory insurance established by Law no. 260/2008, however, does not cover the risk of fire, the most common in housing. On the other hand, the compulsory insurance does not cover the risk of fire in the house, the most common and causing damage in the field. In our brief study, we raise an issue: does the special law protect housing or introduce a new property tax? The paper is structured in three sections: "Property insurance: protection of public and private property", "Optional insurance and compulsory property insurance" and "Compulsory home insurance: no risk of fire".
