- Title
The durability of acrylic complete denture bases in practice.
- Authors
Knott, Nigel J.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the use and stability of rubber-toughened polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) in operative dentistry. Although, rubber-toughened materials have been developed to improve the impact and fatigue properties, a very little change in the relationship between fracture and accuracy and the stability of the polymer denture. The mechanical failure of unmodified PMMA in the clinical environment in complete dentures is commonly a result of impact or fatigue in the middleline of the molding. It is stated that improvements in materials, dimensional accuracy and optimal design can eliminate fracture in complete dentures.
