- Abstract
The article focuses the development of the SAPIN-system, a set of carving, burnishing and finishing instruments, to be used in the amalgam restoration therapy. It states that the carving work in the operative dentistry includes the removal of excess occlusal and proximal filling material as well as the functional anatomical design of the occlusal surface and proximal filling areas. It describes how the S-IN carving instrument, which has a convex blade rounded at the tip, can be shaped to improve the performance of the cutting edges for carving as well as the smoothing of carved proximal areas. It also describes how the carved surfaces can be smoothed precisely with the B-IN burnishing instrument because of its congruence in form with the S-IN carving instrument.
